Without taking away from the thankless job of the referees, some outrageous calls over the years have made necessary the effort to document on-the-field actions of referees that often constitute life-changers to players.
The upcoming World Cup in South Africa affords us the opportunity to evaluate the validity of the perspective that certain categories of players much too often benefit from favorable calls at the expense of others. Such categories may include star power in the sport, country / continent represented, or even race. The purpose of this study is to analyze the visual and documented evidence from the match videos and to possibly make evidence-supported policy recommendations to FIFA.
There will be sixty-four (64) games. Depending on the number of participants, we may assign one person per half of a game, one person per game, etc. Your role, as a volunteer, will be to attentively watch the game(s) to which you’re assigned and call my attention to moments that you find relevant to our study.
If you’re interested in participating, please fill out and submit the form below, and you will be contacted promptly with an acknowledgment welcome. Details of the game evaluation will be provided after a full count of volunteers is secured.
Thank you for playing!
