Colored Team totally dominated the early part of the game. They had practically all the regulars with any ball sense.
Came 11:30, we zeroed out and called “First to 3”. That’s when Whites turned it on. First one, then two unanswered goals.
The glorious moment came when roving Joe on the White team received the ball on the left flank. Uncharacterstically, Joe didn’t blast one at the goal. He saw Bolaji drop far post behind Nima who had all day been a solid last man for the Colored team.
Joe measured a perfect lob that sailed over Nima’s attempt to head. It was just right for Bolaji who one-touched it into the path of on-rushing Freddy in the middle. Nima recovered fast from the missed header but not fast enough.
Freddy’s powerful blast tore into the net carrying it a couple of meters for 3-0 and what was easily a grand way to wrap up 2008.
What a year it’s been. Great soccer all the way. Good friends were made among the many one-timers and first-timers; good friends moved; some non-residents of Southern California know to rendezvous with us when they’re in town.
Yong went back home to Korea; Bryan moved up north.
Along the way, some pretty soccer got played. Even Andrew had a beaut in the Spring - chested the ball and overheaded one in.
Here’s wishing everyone a safe and happy transition into the new year; continued success, peace, and much love.
See you on the field Saturday PROMPTLY.
