Soccer Analysis - Non-selfish Play

Home

No No!  Selfishness and How to NOT play this game.

Sequentially, the video clip shows:

1.  On a breakaway, Mexico had a two on one advantage on Greece with Bravo breaking free on the left side and a teammate on the right side.

2.  The lone defender was heading toward Bravo, who chose to go all the way.  He made a good move (a tight cutback) to beat the defender but couldn’t finish.

Alternative Way to Make the Play

Upon receiving the ball just inside the half way line, Bravo should have within a couple of steps sent the ball to his man on the right side to send the lone defender back; the man on the right in turn SHOULD one-touch return the ball right back to Bravo who would then be free to take the goalie on.  Played right, the lone defender would’ve been left all tangled up and Bravo gone before the rest of the defense got back.
